• Why is baptism important?

There are 3 important reasons God calls all who follow him to be baptized:

    • You have decided to follow Jesus Christ – “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized.” –Acts 2:41

    • You are beginning a changed life in Christ – “Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” –Acts 22:16

    • You are now apart of the body of Christ – “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” –Galatians 3:27
  • Why should I be baptized?

Those who are baptized are choosing to follow Jesus’ example and walk in obedience to His command. It’s a powerful step that reflects a heart committed to living for Him.

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” –Mark 16:16

  • Can my child be baptized?

We baptize anyone age 7 and older who understands the meaning of baptism and is ready to make that personal, public declaration of faith. We encourage parents to partner with our Woodlawn Kids and WDLN Youth ministries to help guide their children through this important step.

  • Can my infant be baptized?

We believe that baptism is an important step in one’s faith journey with Christ. Therefore, we do not baptize infants, as we believe baptism should follow a personal decision to trust in Jesus as Savior. In Scripture, baptism is always preceded by a conscious choice to follow Christ—something infants are not yet able to make. Instead, we encourage parents to dedicate their children to the Lord and commit to raising them in the faith until they are old enough to make that decision for themselves.

Doing this follows the example we see in the Bible, from Jesus’ childhood dedication (Luke 2:22–40) to His baptism as an adult in the Jordan River (Matthew 3:16–17).

  • What if I have already been baptized? Can I be baptized again?

Baptism is meant to mark your decision to follow Jesus, the start of a changed life, and your connection to a family of believers. If your previous baptism didn’t reflect that personal commitment or life change, we encourage you to take that step again as a true expression of your faith.
